Custody | Trading Cryptocurrency | Digital Assets
As the blockchain and cryptocurrency ecosystem has grown since the inception of Bitcoin more than a decade ago we have seen multiple attempts to create viable trading and custody platforms. Wild West exchanges like Mt. Gox with loose security and poor infrastructure are regularly hacked leading to constant negative news. These hacks continue, leaving the door open for enterprise and major financial institutions to tackle the issues plaguing the industry. At the same time, decentralized exchanges continue to be developed and deployed by some of the biggest exchanges in the industry, most notably Binance. The evolution of custody, exchanges, trading, and related platforms is rapidly evolving.
Initiatives to Watch
Fidelity
Fidelity joins the race to provide institutional-grade custody and trading of digital assets. As the fifth largest asset manager in the world with more than $2.5 trillion under management, Fidelity will be one of the most renowned old-guard firms to join the cryptocurrency and digital asset marketplace.
Circle
Circle, a Goldman Sachs backed cryptocurrency platform, has seen tremendous growth in the last 2 years. Acquisitions and blockchain development led Circle to purchase cryptocurrency exchange Poloniex in 2018, and more recently to deploy their own USD pegged stablecoin known as USDC, which differs from the oft-maligned Tether in that it has a public audit and can be verified. With great backing and excellent team, one can expect more news from Circle in 2019.
Nasdaq
Nasdaq has emerged as the go-to technology platform for startup cryptocurrency exchanges and white labeled service providers. Among other technology, Nasdaq licenses its matching engine, Financial Information Exchange (FIX), and SMART Market Surveillance Technology. Adena Friedman, Nasdaq’s CEO says, “cryptocurrency deserves an opportunity to find a sustainable future in our economy,” while at the same time giving a cautious outlook that it has the potential to become the next internet - or - the next Segway.
Coinbase
Founded in 2012, Coinbase is one of the oldest and highly regarded cryptocurrency exchange and custody platforms. With more than $1 Billion in revenue for 2018 and an $8 Billion valuation, Coinbase, under the leadership of CEO Brian Armstrong has proven again and again they are a leader in the space.
Bakkt
Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), owner of the NYSE, is rolling out Bakkt, which “will connect investors, merchants and consumers, making it easier, faster and more cost-effective to access, trade and use digital assets.”
CME
The CME Group is one of the worlds leading and most diverse derivatives trading platforms, allowing traders to hedge risk in their portfolios or take risk in the derivatives marketplace. As one of the first two companies (CME and CBOE) to offer futures trading in Bitcoin markets, CME Group has proven to be a leader in crypto-derivative markets.
Bittrex
Bittrex is a leading cryptocurrency and token trading platform operating out of the Northwest United States. Bittrex launched in early 2014, and is focused on asset security and delivering a robust, scalable, and quick execution platform for active traders. Following suit with many others, Bittrex launched an OTC desk in January 2019.
Xapo
XAPO is one of the most trusted Custody Solutions in the digital asset universe, providing unmatched security and storage. In addition to institutional-grade custodian services, XAPO provide consumer tools and wallets which they believe will help bring cryptocurrency towards the goal of mass adoption.
Coinberry
Coinberry is leading Canada with a robust product, easy entry and access mechanisms for new clients and enterprise level security. On the heels of several crypto scandals plaguing the industry, and Canada specifically, Coinberry looks to maintain security and the health of its customers for the long term.
Why Attend?
This year WCC takes over two levels of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas meeting space.
WCC will host multiple tracks on 4 stages with over 125 hand picked speakers, including a Main Conference, Multiple Blockchain Developer Conference, Mining Conference, Educational Workshops, Allocation Lounge, Networking Events and more…
What to Expect
Thought leaders from notable companies will descend on Las Vegas to discuss the implementation and real-world use cases of blockchain, digital currency, and the many ways our emerging technology is disrupting global enterprises. Topics of discussion will focus on distributed ledger technology, blockchain use cases, digitized assets, disruption, and developments in the adoption of digital currency. What problems are we aiming to solve? What enterprise companies are leading the charge? How are major financial institutions adapting? What forms of adoption will we see in 2019 and 2020?
At WCC DEV CON we intend to bring together developers from multiple major blockchain foundations and work together to reduce tribalism, find common ground, and build solutions to actual problems being addressed by the blockchain community at-large. WCC will dedicate an entire ballroom of the Cosmopolitan to this effort, where we will host meetups, curated education sessions, panel discussions featuring key opinion leaders, a hackathon, and an un-conference.
The WCC Mining Conference will focus on all segments of blockchain infrastructure, from block producers to mining pools. Learn from industry experts about energy transmission, data center planning and implementation, equipment suppliers, cloud mining companies, mining pool operators, and the many ways by which mining operations can be financed to alleviate operational risks associated with asset valuations. Space will be allocated for closed-door meetings, networking, and negotiating contracts with industry service providers from every part of the industry. Leave confident you can win the race to computational power while running an efficient and future-proof business.
